STALKER 2 PS5 and PS5 Pro Comparison Highlights Major Visual Upgrades

by Salal Awan

STALKER 2 Heart of Chornobyl arrives on PlayStation 5 today, and an early comparison between the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions reveals a clear gap in visual fidelity, particularly in resolution and several key rendering features. The game launches with two display modes, Standard and Pro, and while both platforms deliver similar frame rate results, the PS5 Pro offers considerably sharper image quality and more detailed visual effects. These improvements are especially apparent in Performance mode, where the higher resolution makes the overall presentation look noticeably cleaner.

The PS5 Pro enhancements extend beyond basic image sharpness. The upgraded hardware improves shadow resolution, global illumination, volumetric fog, reflections, and cloud rendering. Each of these elements contributes to the game’s heavy atmosphere, giving the Pro version a more refined and sometimes more dramatic look. Despite the visual leap, performance targets remain consistent between the two consoles, suggesting the developer has prioritized stability while allowing the Pro to flex its advantages where they matter most. Overall, STALKER 2 appears to be best experienced on the PS5 Pro if we go by the results of this comparison.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chornobyl is an ambitious blend of first-person shooting, survival horror, and immersive sim design set within the vast 64 square kilometer Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. Players step into the role of Skif, a lone stalker navigating a richly detailed open world shaped by anomalies, hostile factions, radiation, and mutated threats. The combination of survival mechanics such as hunger and radiation exposure with dynamic AI and emergent encounters has helped position the game as one of the more distinctive shooters of its era.

The title first launched on November 20, 2024, for PC and Xbox Series X/S, including a day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass. The PlayStation 5 edition, releasing exactly one year later on November 20, 2025, brings the game to a broader audience with targets of native 4K at 30 FPS in Quality mode and upscaled 4K at 60 FPS in Performance mode. These targets hold for both the base PS5 and the PS5 Pro, though the Pro gains additional headroom to sharpen the image and enhance visual effects.
