The release of Lucasfilm Games and Arcanaut Studios’ action role-playing game, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, is optimistically expected to happen by the year 2030.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier took to Twitter/X to share his thoughts on the recent announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic at The Game Awards 2025, and its potential release window. He cautioned fans regarding the project’s development timeline, mentioning that developer Arcanaut Studios was founded just this year by Lucasfilm Games.

As such, based on Schreier’s optimistic guess, the release of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will happen sometime around the year 2030. It’s even possible for it to get pushed further and end up being a PlayStation 7 game. Either way, the gist of it is that the project is in its infancy, and the CGI trailer shown at The Game Awards 2025 was likely more of a way to gain the attention of talent for hiring purposes.

Schreier also noted that, around half the time, announcements of this nature get canceled. He gave the example of Wonder Woman, which was also announced via a CGI trailer at The Game Awards 2021. We certainly hope that doesn’t end up being the case here, and Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic sees the light of day, however far away that may be.

Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic is in development for PC and console platforms. It tells a new story set during the Old Republic era. Arcanaut Studios referred to the project as a spiritual successor to Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, though no formal narrative or mechanical connection was confirmed. The studio did not provide information regarding the release schedule, gameplay systems, or the extent to which familiar elements of the Old Republic era will appear in the game.
