Star Wars Galactic Racer Delivers 60 FPS Across Consoles

by Ali Haider

Star Wars Galactic Racer delivers strong image quality and largely locked 60 FPS performance across current-generation consoles, according to Digital Foundry’s technical analysis.

The Unreal Engine 5-powered racer uses features including Lumen global illumination, Virtual Shadow Maps and Nanite on the higher-end consoles. Digital Foundry found that the game manages to combine these technologies with consistent performance across the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

On PS5, Star Wars Galactic Racer renders internally at around 1296p before using TSR upscaling. The resulting image is generally sharp on a 4K display, although some minor shimmering and instability in global illumination can be seen. Performance is essentially locked to 60 FPS, with only occasional single-frame drops during camera cuts.

PS5 Pro increases the internal resolution to approximately 1728p while continuing to use TSR. This produces a cleaner image, particularly during motion, while performance remains virtually identical to the standard PS5 with no meaningful gameplay drops from the 60 FPS target.

Xbox Series X offers a similar presentation to the standard PS5. The console also renders at approximately 1296p and retains the same major visual features, while performance remains close to a locked 60 FPS. Digital Foundry observed minor drops around camera cuts and during the introductory sequence.

Xbox Series S makes the biggest visual compromises. The console renders at approximately 864p and replaces Lumen global illumination with baked lighting, resulting in less detailed and directional lighting. Foliage and environmental detail are also reduced, although the game still maintains its 60 FPS target outside of occasional camera-cut drops.

Digital Foundry praised Star Wars Galactic Racer as a strong example of Unreal Engine 5 being used to deliver advanced visual features without sacrificing smooth performance. The analysis found that all four consoles maintain a strong 60 FPS experience despite their differences in resolution and graphical quality.
