Star Wars Galactic Racer Shows Gameplay at State of Play

by Greg Martin

Star Wars Galactic Racer made a fresh appearance during Sony’s State of Play, offering a new look at the upcoming racing title set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC in 2026. The latest gameplay trailer showcased high-speed competition across a mix of new locations and familiar planets from the Star Wars universe, along with a first glimpse at several key characters and the return of podracing.

The game centers on the Galactic League, an unsanctioned racing competition operating in the Outer Rim. The league is currently under the control of Kestar Bool, a powerful and well-connected figure whose influence has reshaped the competition. Facing the loss of the league he created, organizer Darius Pax recruits a skilled pilot known as Shade to challenge Bool’s dominance. Shade enters the championship with a personal history tied to the Bool family, setting the stage for a rivalry that drives the story forward.

Players take on the role of Shade in a narrative-driven campaign that unfolds through branching events. Progression involves earning parts, tools, and upgrades that can be used to improve vehicles and adapt to different race conditions. A variety of repulsorcraft are available, including landspeeders, skim speeders, speeder bikes, and podracers. Customization plays a central role, with mechanic Hibi assisting players in refining builds to match their preferred racing style.

Beyond the campaign, Star Wars Galactic Racer features multiple gameplay modes. Online multiplayer supports races with up to 12 competitors across several competitive formats. Arcade mode offers time trials and leaderboard-focused challenges, while Scenarios mode introduces races under specific conditions, ranging from practice sessions on new tracks to more demanding events designed to test advanced piloting skills.

Star Wars Galactic Racer is scheduled to release in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, with further details on its modes and features expected closer to launch.
