Stardew Valley Free To Claim On PS Plus, With A Bonus Copy For PS Vita Owners

by Ali Haider

Stardew Valley has returned to PlayStation Plus, giving subscribers on PS4 the chance to claim the beloved farming simulation game throughout September 2025. Once redeemed, the title remains in the user’s library permanently, unlike the usual timed license tied to most PS Plus offerings.

An interesting detail has surfaced for long-time Sony fans who still own a PlayStation Vita. By claiming Stardew Valley through PS Plus on PS4, Vita owners can access the handheld version for free through cross-buy. This copy does not carry an expiration date and becomes a permanent part of the user’s library, even if their subscription lapses. This unusual loophole was highlighted by Wario64, with players confirming that the Vita version shows no time restrictions once downloaded.

Stardew Valley joins Psychonauts 2 and Viewfinder as part of the September 2025 PS Plus lineup. Subscribers can redeem these games beginning September 2 and will have until October 6 to add them to their libraries.

Beyond the PS Plus news, Stardew Valley creator Eric ConcernedApe Barone recently confirmed that a major update, version 1.7, is in development. Speaking at a live concert, Barone assured fans that new content is still on the way, even though the game is nearing its ten-year anniversary. He also addressed concerns about the project affecting his upcoming title, Haunted Chocolatier. On X, he wrote, “My plan is that this will not hinder Haunted Chocolatier development,” providing reassurance to fans who have been eagerly awaiting both games.

Originally released in 2016, Stardew Valley has grown from an independent project into one of the most influential farming simulation games ever made. Inspired by Story of Seasons, the game allows players to manage farms, explore caves, and build relationships with villagers. It has sold over 41 million copies as of late 2024 and is widely regarded as a modern classic that revived interest in the genre.

With a free PS Plus offering, a rare opportunity for PS Vita owners, and fresh content on the horizon, Stardew Valley continues to show why it has maintained such a loyal following nearly a decade after its release.
