The PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of Bethesda Game Studios’ action role-playing game, Starfield, are currently suffering from frequent game crashes.

Members of the gaming enthusiast Reset Era forums have reported that the newly released PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of Starfield are currently experiencing issues pertaining to game crashes and freezes. Crashes can reportedly be rather severe, requiring users to pull their console’s power cable out as it otherwise wouldn’t power back on.

Based on player reports, the occurrence of game crashes in the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of Starfield isn’t limited to certain in-game areas, and is more of a widespread issue throughout the game. Some speculated that the PS5 Pro’s Enhanced PSSR toggle may be the source of the problem, but this theory was proven false due to the base console also suffering from game crashes.

As of writing, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bethesda Game Studios have not acknowledged the issue. It’s likely that a patch is being worked on, but we’ll probably be hearing about it sometime during the coming week. For now, users are advised to troubleshoot the game’s available graphics settings to se if any of them leads to fewer or no game crashes.

The PS5 version of Starfield adds full DualSense support, with adaptive triggers providing varying levels of resistance depending on weapon type. This applies to both ground combat and starship encounters, giving each action a more tactile feel. The controller’s light bar is also integrated into gameplay, changing color based on player health or ship status and pulsing red during critical moments. Additional immersion features include audio playback through the DualSense speaker, where voice logs and ship communications will be heard directly from the controller. The touchpad is also utilized for navigation, allowing players to quickly access maps, switch perspectives, activate the hand scanner, and open menus such as inventory and missions through presses and swipe gestures.
