Bethesda has confirmed that Starfield will launch on PlayStation 5 on April 7, marking the game’s debut on Sony’s platform and opening the experience to a new audience of players.
Originally released as a spacefaring role-playing game built around exploration and player choice, Starfield places players in control of their own journey across the Settled Systems. The PlayStation 5 version aims to deliver the most complete version of the game to date, incorporating all major updates released since its initial launch.
This includes a range of quality-of-life improvements and additional features introduced over time. Among them are more detailed surface maps designed to make navigation clearer, as well as the REV 8 land vehicle, which improves planetary traversal. The release also integrates larger content updates, such as Creations, which expand how players can interact with the game’s systems.
On the technical side, Starfield will take advantage of the DualSense controller, with adaptive triggers tailored to different weapon types, including those used in space combat. The controller’s light bar will reflect player and ship health, while the touchpad can be used for quick actions such as switching perspectives or accessing maps and scanning tools.
The PlayStation 5 version will also launch alongside the Free Lanes update, which will be available on the same day. Bethesda states that the combination of these updates is intended to provide a more refined and feature complete experience for new players.
Alongside the release, several editions of the game will be available. The Standard Edition, priced at $49.99, includes the base game. The Premium Edition, priced at $69.99, adds the Terran Armada and Shattered Space expansions, along with 1000 Creation Credits, a Constellation skin pack, and access to a digital artbook and soundtrack. Players who already own the base game will also have the option to purchase a Premium Edition Upgrade for $24.99, which includes the additional content.
