Starfield Release Date Announced

Fans have been eager to know when Starfield would see the light of day. The wait has finally come to an end, as Bethesda has announced that the game will hit store shelves on September 6, 2023. It arrives a bit later than expected, though that is probably for the better, as prior games from the studio are known to be buggy at launch. The next few months should give Bethesda the time and opportunity to iron out any glaring bugs that are present in the game’s existing build.

Previously, it was correctly reported that Starfield had internally been delayed to the second half of 2023. During an episode of the Defining Duke podcast, YouTuber MrMattyPlays shared his insight regarding the release window for Bethesda’s upcoming action RPG. According to him, Starfield had internally been delayed to the second half of 2023, though he added that it should still launch sometime this Summer.

MrMattyPlays said that his source was someone he trusted quite a bit, and that they’ve been very accurate in the past. According to him, nothing from this source had previously been wrong. He added that this information wasn’t accompanied by concern regarding the state of Starfield. In fact, MrMattyPlays’ clarified that good things have been said about the game, and he believed that the delay was more a situation where the studio was taking the extra time to refine its vision and get everything in order before its launch.

Given the complex game systems in play in Starfield, including those pertaining to settlement building, crafting, character progression, exploration, companions, and branching narrative paths, it’s not hard to see why the game may have needed a little more time in development. It’s not unheard of for games of this scale and scope that offer such tremendous amount of player agency to receive delays. Such extensive game systems ultimately also require thorough testing.
