Starfield Reportedly Coming to PS5 in 2026 as DLC Expansion Faces Delay

Bethesda’s sci-fi epic Starfield is reportedly headed to the PlayStation 5 next year, according to gaming insider NateTheHate. The insider also revealed that the game’s long-awaited story expansion—initially planned for 2025—has been quietly delayed to 2026 to align more closely with the PlayStation release.

The discussion unfolded on social media, where Nate responded to a series of fan questions about upcoming projects and platform releases. When asked about Starfield’s future, he wrote, “The expansion content planned for this year was delayed & they want the PS5 version close to that. So… buy me Starfield for PS5 when it hits next year?” In a follow-up exchange, he reiterated his confidence in the port’s existence, writing, “And it’ll go to PS5 next year. Buy it for me when it lands?” The insider added that an official announcement might not occur until 2026 “unless plans change.”

Meanwhile, Bethesda Game Studios has officially confirmed that Starfield will continue to receive major updates and expansions. In a recent development update, Tim Lamb, lead creative producer at Bethesda, stated, “I think as it comes to Starfield, I’m really excited for players to see what the team’s been working on. We have some cool stuff coming, including free updates and features the players have been asking for, as well as a new DLC story.” He added that part of the team is focused on improving space exploration and gameplay depth while introducing new systems and community-driven content through verified creators.

Released on September 6, 2023, Starfield marked Bethesda’s first original IP in over two decades, offering players a massive single-player RPG set in the Settled Systems—a galaxy of over 1,000 explorable planets. The game blends Bethesda’s signature open-world design with space travel, combat, and deep role-playing mechanics.

If NateTheHate’s claims prove accurate, Starfield’s PS5 release could coincide with the delayed expansion, effectively reintroducing the game to a new audience alongside its largest content update yet. As of now, neither Bethesda nor Microsoft has commented publicly on the rumor. However, given the recent trend of cross-platform releases from Xbox Game Studios, the possibility of Starfield reaching PlayStation no longer seems as improbable as it once did.
