Valve has released a new Steam Client update dated December 19, bringing a significant architectural change by moving the Windows client to 64-bit on supported systems. The update also delivers a broad range of fixes and feature improvements across Game Recording, Friends and Chat, Big Picture Mode, Remote Play, and Steam Input.
In addition to stability fixes, the update expands controller compatibility and refines gyro input behavior, with several long-standing issues addressed. Users on 32-bit versions of Windows will continue receiving updates for a limited time before support ends in early 2026.
Patch Notes
General
- Transitioned the Steam client to 64-bit on Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11.
- Continued support for the 32-bit Steam client on 32-bit Windows systems until January 1, 2026.
- Fixed an issue where non-Steam browser windows could be created unintentionally when steamwebhelper restarted.
Game Recording
- Fixed errors when copying to the clipboard or exporting H265 videos on systems using NVIDIA 50xx series GPUs.
Friends and Chat
- Enabled direct reporting of suspicious or harassing group chat messages from the chat window.
- Added options to block or unfriend another user while submitting a report.
Big Picture Mode
- Fixed intermittent in-game purchase failures affecting some titles.
Remote Play
- Fixed an issue preventing the mouse from moving to another monitor when using touch controls on the Steam Link app.
Steam Input
- Added support for Nintendo Switch 2 controllers connected via USB on Windows.
- Added support for GameCube adapters in Wii U mode with rumble on Windows.
- Added an Invert Input toggle to Regular Press activator settings.
- Promoted newer gyro modes from beta to default, while retaining older modes for existing configurations.
- Adjusted DualSense Create and Options glyphs for improved recognition.
- Added Any or All button selection options for gyro activation behavior.
- Separated Gyro Haptic On Off effects from Gyro Haptic Rotation effects.
- Added Relative Roll and Relative Pitch toggles to Gyro to Joystick Deflection Mode.
- Restricted Relative Roll and Relative Pitch options to configurations with a selected Gyro Activation Button.
- Fixed an issue where the desktop configurator could close unexpectedly when previewing configurations.
- Fixed incorrect configuration selection for DualSense Edge, Xbox Elite, and Nintendo Joy-Con controllers in paired mode.
- Fixed Gyro to Joystick Deflection Lock Extents not functioning correctly.
- Fixed cases where certain Relative Roll and Relative Pitch combinations resulted in zero joystick output.
