The OLED version of Valve’s gaming handheld PC, the Steam Deck, is out-of-stock in some regions as a result of RAM and storage shortages.

Valve has updated its store page (via Wario64 on Twitter/X) for the Steam Deck with a notice, informing those interested in purchasing the gaming handheld PC that the OLED version may be out-of-stock intermittently in some regions due to RAM and storage shortages. It is currently sold out in North America.

Futhermore, according to Valve, the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model is no longer in production, and once sold out will no longer be available.

The announcement doesn’t bode well for the launch of Valve’s future hardware, Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Neither device has received official pricing and concrete release details. Back in November, the company clarified in an interview that it has no plans to subsidize the Steam Machine. “No, it’s more in line with what you might expect from the current PC market,” said Valve’s Product Designers Lawrence Yang and Pierre-Loup Griffais. The ongoing RAM and storage shortages undoubtedly makes the launch of new hardware a major challenge, given that the company is struggling to maintain Steam Deck supplies.

As for the Steam Deck successor, back in August, known hardware insider KeplerL2 claimed that it would launch in the year 2028. At the time, this was in line with an official statement from Yang, who said in an interview that the Steam Deck 2 would be at least two to three years from release, and that it would bring a “next-generation” power upgrade. However, with 2026 and beyond seemingly facing RAM and storage shortages, the intended launch window may not be realized.

The RAM and storage shortages have also affected console makers. Sony Interactive Entertainment is reportedly considering delaying the launch of the PS6 to 2028 or even 2029. Read about it here.
