Kim recently addressed the situation on July 19, using his personal social media account to warn fans. In his statement, Kim confirmed that the Stellar Blade official account had been compromised and was being used to distribute unauthorized posts promoting cryptocurrency airdrops and suspicious signup offers. He urged the community to avoid engaging with these posts and assured that discussions were underway to recover the account.
On July 20, Kim followed up with a second message, warning that the hackers behind the breach had launched an external website promoting fake cryptocurrency airdrops. He emphasized that this site has no affiliation with Stellar Blade and reiterated that the game and its developers have never issued or endorsed any form of cryptocurrency. His statement included a strong caution against interacting with the fraudulent promotions, affirming that any further developments would be communicated directly by him or the team.
These warnings come after Kim initially confirmed the security incident on July 14. At that time, Kim had informed the community that the development team was collaborating with the platform administrators to resolve the issue. He also asked fans to exercise patience and refrain from excessive reporting of the compromised account, warning that it could lead to automated suspensions under the platform’s security protocols.
The timing of the breach is particularly unfortunate for Shift Up, the studio behind Stellar Blade. The game recently celebrated a significant commercial achievement, surpassing three million copies sold worldwide. Initially launched for PlayStation 5, Stellar Blade expanded to PC and quickly became one of the standout action titles of the year. Following this success, Shift Up announced plans to bring the game to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
