The director behind Sony Interactive Entertainment and Shift Up’s action adventure game, Stellar Blade, is hoping to have its sequel release in the year 2027.
During a recent interview (via Genki_JPN), Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-tae was asked about Investor Relations (IR) data pointing towards story DLC for Stellar Blade being converted into a full-fledged sequel, and about the possibility of PlayStation consoles still being considered as the priority platform. In response, he confirmed that the the volume of the planned DLC became larger than expected, due to which the development team decided to alter its direction and proceed with the sequel, though he added that there have been many changes since then.

Hyung-tae mentioned that, since all the manpower at Shift Up had been invested in the development of the recently released PC port of Stellar Blade, not much work has gone into the sequel. According to him, the studio is currently conducting Research and Development (R&D) for the next title, while also thinking about ‘how it can deliver upon the ‘next-gen’ vision.’
Speaking on the release schedule of the Stellar Blade sequel, the Shift Up CEO said that it would be great to have it see the light of day in 2027, but since there are only 3 years between now and then, he can only assure that the development team will do its best and come up with something great.
When asked for his stance on the PC modding scene in relation to games like Stellar Blade featuring attractive lead characters, Hyung-tae clarified that there is no set policy from the company in this regard. In fact, he said that data tampering is very diverse, from increasing the game speed to completely changing the game. As long as they aren’t abused, he believes mods play a positive role in expanding the experience and scope. As such, he generally views it as a positive. However, he is critical of mods that hack or interfere with a game’s normal operations.
