Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, a modern reimagining of the classic handheld farming sim, has been rated M18 in Singapore by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). The rating was issued due to the inclusion of same-sex romantic relationships, alongside depictions of intimacy and marriage.
Set in the peaceful community of Zephyr Town, the game tasks players with restoring the once-thriving bazaar to its former prosperity. Players assume the role of a customizable male or female protagonist and manage their farms by planting crops, raising livestock, and selling goods at the weekly market. Exploration expands across towns where players can build bonds with villagers, undertake quests, and strengthen their ties with the local community.
The IMDA classification highlights the inclusion of a dating system that allows players to pursue relationships with both heterosexual and same-sex villagers. Affinity is built through daily interactions and gift-giving, leading to confessions of love, light intimacy such as hugging and kissing, and eventual marriage. Marriage ceremonies between same-sex couples are depicted in cutscenes, and like heterosexual couples, they may later receive a child through magical means. The game further illustrates couples living together and celebrating anniversaries. Under Singapore’s M18 guidelines, such portrayals are permitted if treated discreetly and not in a gratuitous manner.
Beyond relationship elements, the remake introduces several new mechanics and upgrades. A unique wind-based system lets players harness Zephyr Town’s weather patterns, using windmills to craft items and even gliding across areas with wind-powered tools. Vertical exploration also plays a greater role, with new jumping abilities enhancing farming and town traversal. The remake features a complete visual overhaul, fully voiced story events for the first time in the series, and expanded narrative arcs. Players can personalize their bazaar stalls, improve their sales strategies, and gradually see the town flourish as the market grows.
Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar is scheduled to release on August 27, 2025, offering fans a blend of traditional farming simulation with modernized mechanics, heartfelt storytelling, and inclusive relationship options.
