Paramount Pictures has officially set October 16, 2026, as the release date for its live-action Street Fighter reboot. The project, co-produced with Capcom, brings the iconic fighting game franchise back to the big screen for the first time in over a decade, this time under the direction of Kitao Sakurai.
The new adaptation is set in 1993, centering on estranged martial artists Ryu, played by Andrew Koji (Warrior), and Ken Masters, portrayed by Noah Centineo (Black Adam). Their paths collide once again when Chun-Li, played by Callina Liang, recruits them for the fabled World Warrior Tournament. The brutal competition hides a deeper conspiracy, one that forces the fighters to confront not only their rivals but also their own troubled pasts. As the official logline puts it, “If they don’t, it’s game over.”
Joining the trio is a packed ensemble cast featuring Roman Reigns as Akuma, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Orville Peck as Vega, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Kyle Mooney as Marvin, and Mel Jarnson as Cammy.
The film’s official social media accounts revealed new posters and cast photos alongside the release date announcement, teasing the gritty atmosphere and high-octane battles that fans can expect. The tagline “Secrets don’t last long in the arena—let the tournament begin!” suggests a faithful but modernized take on the franchise’s spirit.
The production of Street Fighter has been eventful. Legendary Entertainment secured the live-action rights in 2023, with early plans led by directors Danny and Michael Philippou. Their departure in mid-2024 paved the way for Sakurai to take over in early 2025. Casting moved quickly through that year, bringing together a mix of seasoned actors, athletes, and musicians for the ensemble. Filming began in August 2025, keeping the project on track for its planned release.
As the third attempt to adapt Street Fighter into live action, Paramount’s reboot enters the ring with high expectations. With a modern creative team, Capcom’s direct involvement, and a cast that spans Hollywood, professional wrestling, and international martial arts, the studio is betting that this will finally deliver the definitive Street Fighter experience on screen.
Street Fighter opens in U.S. theaters on October 16, 2026.
