by Greg Martin

Unknown Worlds has confirmed that Subnautica and Subnautica Below Zero will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 17, bringing enhanced performance and new control options to the survival adventures.

The Switch 2 versions build on the original releases with technical upgrades aimed at delivering a smoother experience. When connected to a compatible TV through the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock, both titles will run at up to 1440p resolution with performance reaching as high as 60 fps. In handheld mode, players can expect up to 1080p resolution at 60 fps. The updated versions also add support for Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, offering an alternative way to navigate the underwater environments.

Players who already own Subnautica or Below Zero on the original Switch will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 editions at no cost. Beginning February 17, existing owners can visit the respective Nintendo Switch 2 store page for either game, select the Upgrade Pack option, and download it for free.

There is one regional exception. When the Switch 2 versions release in Japan at a later date, a ¥100 fee will apply due to a legal requirement.

With improved resolution, higher frame rates, and expanded control support, Subnautica and Below Zero are set to make their debut on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 17, giving players another opportunity to dive back into the depths.
