Suda51 Is Interested In Working On A Peacemaker Game

Game director, designer, and writer, Suda51, has expressed interest in working on a game based on DC universe character Peacemaker.

During a recent interview (via Future Games Show), the Japanese game designer is asked about what DC superheroes might make for interesting video game adaptations. In response: Goichi “Suda51” Suda said that he would like to see Peacemaker find “some new and interesting ways of murdering” people, with the kind of gritty, bloody flair his studio, Grasshopper Manufacture, is known for.

This is in line with earlier statements from the game designer about collaborating with James Gunn or adapting DC properties. In a Game Informer interview from June, 2024, Suda51 said that he “would totally be down with doing another game with him [James Gunn] if the opportunity presented itself,” and expressed interest in working on a DC‐licensed game.

Suda has worked with James Gunn in the past. The two collaborated on Grasshopper Manufacture’s 2012 action-adventure game, Lollipop Chainsaw, where Gunn was brought on board by Warner Bros to amplify the game’s scenario and writing. Suda has spoken warmly about Gunn’s creativity and professionalism in that partnership.

The game designer’s over the top and violent style of games could mesh interestingly with Peacemaker, a character and series that also leans into irreverence and intensity. Whether this becomes a real project, however, depends on many factors, including licensing, timing, Suda’s studio priorities, and whether Warner Bros DC would greenlight such a collaboration. While a game based on Peacemaker is not known to be in development, Suda51’s statement strongly indicates that he’s up for working on such a project, should the opportunity arise. If DC or other rights holders are seeking a bold, unconventional take on Peacemaker, he’s the man for the job.

Peacemaker was recently added to Fortnite as part of a collaboration with DC.
