A new comparison between Super Mario Bros Wonder on Nintendo Switch and its updated version on Switch 2 highlights a significant technical leap, led by a jump to native 4K resolution and stable performance.
The Switch 2 version increases resolution from 1080p on the original hardware to native 2160p, offering a noticeably sharper image. Alongside this, the game runs at a consistent 60 FPS, making it one of the few titles on the platform to combine native 4K with that level of performance.
The upgrade arrives as part of the newly released Switch 2 edition and paid update, which launched on March 26, 2026. In addition to visual improvements, the update introduces new content through the Bellabel Park expansion. This includes new outfits, bosses, and expanded multiplayer features.
Originally released on October 20, 2023, Super Mario Bros Wonder has remained one of Nintendo’s strongest performers, surpassing 17 million units sold by early 2025. The new Switch 2 edition is positioned as a definitive version, offering both technical enhancements and additional gameplay content.
Players who already own the original release can access the upgrade through a paid update, while new users can purchase the full Switch 2 edition. The improvements mark a notable step forward for the title, particularly in showcasing the capabilities of Nintendo’s newer hardware.
