Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 Collection Announced for Switch, Amiibo Also Revealed

Nintendo has officially revealed that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are coming to the Nintendo Switch in a new collection. The bundle, Super Mario Galaxy 1+2, will be available on October 2, 2025, bringing two of Mario’s most acclaimed 3D adventures to the hybrid console. For players who prefer digital downloads, each game will also be sold individually on the Nintendo eShop.

The re-release isn’t just a simple port. Both games will feature an improved user interface, offering players the choice between classic motion controls and more modern button and stick controls. They will also include a new in-game music player and updated storybook content. Fans can look forward to a physical version of Rosalina’s Story Book with new pages and a brand-new Super Mario Galaxy amiibo, scheduled to launch on April 2, 2026. The titles will launch with an enhanced resolution, and a free update for the Nintendo Switch 2 will add stunning 4K resolution support for both games.

Originally released in 2007 for the Wii, Super Mario Galaxy was praised for its innovative use of gravity mechanics, vibrant level design, and orchestrated soundtrack. Directed by Yoshiaki Koizumi, the game quickly became a critical and commercial success, selling over 12 million copies and earning numerous Game of the Year awards. Its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, released in 2010, built upon the formula with more challenging levels and expanded gameplay ideas, cementing the Galaxy duology as one of Nintendo’s finest achievements.

Both titles have been re-released in limited forms before, such as the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection in 2020, but this marks the first time they are bundled together in a dedicated release for the Switch. Given their reputation as some of the best 3D platformers ever made, the upcoming collection is expected to attract both nostalgic fans and newcomers alike.

With the Galaxy series celebrating nearly two decades since its debut, Nintendo’s decision to revisit these cosmic adventures feels like a fitting tribute to Mario’s legacy. Fans can look forward to reliving the gravity-defying gameplay this October, just months ahead of the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in 2026.
