The broadcast featured commentary from Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination representatives, offering fresh details about the film’s production status, characters, and music.

Opening the presentation, Miyamoto introduced the new footage and reflected on the response to the first trailer. He said, “Today, I would like to show you the latest video for the Super Mario Galaxy movie. We released the first trailer last November, which was well received by many people from around the world, and I sincerely thank you all for your support.” He then invited viewers to watch the new footage, which included several brief character moments and action sequences.

Following the trailer, Miyamoto addressed one of the most common questions raised after the initial reveal. “After the first trailer was released, people were asking, ‘Is Yoshi not going to be in the movie?’ Of course, he is in it,” he said. Miyamoto went on to explain Yoshi’s long history within the franchise, recalling the character’s origins in Super Mario World and his evolution through later titles. He added that for this film, Nintendo worked closely with Illumination to faithfully adapt Yoshi for the big screen.

Miyamoto also confirmed that many familiar characters, including Yoshi, will play active roles in the story. “Many familiar characters, including Yoshi, will play active roles in the Super Mario Galaxy movie. We hope you are looking forward to it,” he said before closing the segment.

Illumination founder Chris Meledandri also appeared during the Direct to provide a production update. He stated, “Since the last time we spoke, animation has now been fully completed and the movie has moved into post-production.” Meledandri explained that the team is now focusing on sound design and music, noting collaboration between directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, composer Brian Tyler, Nintendo, and Skywalker Sound. He added, “Brian has integrated themes from the Super Mario Galaxy games and is recording the score with a 70-piece orchestra.”

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a computer-animated adventure film produced by Illumination in association with Nintendo and serves as a direct sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The sequel expands the cinematic universe by introducing Rosalina, voiced by Brie Larson, and Bowser Jr., voiced by Benny Safdie, alongside the returning main cast including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black.

Nintendo confirmed that the film will release theatrically in the United States on April 1, 2026, with a Japanese release scheduled for April 24, 2026.
