Super Mario Party Jamboree Comparison Reveals Minimal Improvements Between Switch and Switch 2 Versions

by Ali Haider

The release of Super Mario Party Jamboree for the Nintendo Switch 2 introduces a new mode called Jamboree TV, promising enhanced interactivity and fresh content. However, a technical comparison suggests the upgrade may not be as impactful as fans had hoped.

On the surface, the game offers two distinct options for Switch 2 players. The original Super Mario Jamboree, ported from the first Switch, remains essentially untouched, with only minor image quality improvements attributed to the system’s 4K output. No new enhancements or technical upgrades appear to be present in the base game itself, which has led to some disappointment among returning players.

The main addition comes in the form of Jamboree TV, an exclusive expansion available on the Switch 2. Priced at 19.99 USD, it includes a suite of new features designed to take advantage of the hardware. This includes support for 1440p resolution in TV mode, improved shadow and reflection rendering, and several interactive gameplay options. These new additions are available only through Jamboree TV and are not integrated into the standard Super Mario Jamboree experience.

Jamboree TV introduces unique control schemes and hardware integrations. Players can now engage with mini-games using mouse-style Joy-Con controls, speak into the built-in microphone for voice-controlled challenges, and even appear inside the game using the new CameraPlay feature. The latter requires a separately sold USB-C camera compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.

According to Nintendo, “You’re the star of the show on Jamboree TV. Step up to the stage because Jamboree TV is all about audience participation.” The mode offers what the company describes as full-body motion controls, sound-based interactions, and revised Mario Party rules, all designed to create a more immersive party experience.

Another addition is GameShare compatibility, enabling local multiplayer with other Switch 2 units. This makes it easier for players to connect and enjoy mini-games together, but this feature is also limited to the new Jamboree TV mode.

Super Mario Party Jamboree with the Jamboree TV expansion became available on July 24, 2025, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
