Superman Continues Strong Box Office Run With $17 Million Tuesday, Eyes $175 Million First-Week Total

by Salal Awan

Warner Bros.’ Superman shows no signs of slowing down at the box office as it adds nearly $17 million on its first Tuesday in theaters, bringing its domestic total to $155 million. This strong weekday performance reinforces the film’s early momentum and positions it to reach approximately $175 million in its opening week, a mark that would place it among the year’s most successful theatrical releases.

This latest figure follows a robust Monday where Superman broke the record for a July superhero film’s post-opening Monday, grossing $12.9 million. The consistency of its earnings demonstrates that the film is maintaining a healthy hold on its audience, with weekday drops falling within expectations for major summer blockbusters. Industry projections suggest that if this trajectory continues, Superman could conclude its domestic run with over $350 million, with some analysts not ruling out the possibility of a final tally reaching $375 million or even $400 million.

Internationally, Superman has also been holding firm. After five days, the film has secured $115 million in overseas earnings, suggesting a potential global total of over $250 million by the end of its first week. Along with its domestic earnings, this performance highlights the film’s wide international appeal and further solidifies its reputation as a successful launch for DC Studios’ revamped cinematic universe.

Previously, it was reported that Superman had a standout opening weekend, achieving a $125 million domestic debut. The weekend figures broke down as follows:

  • Friday: $56.1 million (including pre-shows)
  • Saturday: $37.6 million (a 33 percent drop from Friday)
  • Sunday: $31.3 million (a 17 percent drop from Saturday)

The four-day cumulative domestic total stood at $137.9 million as of Monday, with global earnings surpassing $233 million by the start of the new week. The film’s performance has already outpaced that of Man of Steel in comparable opening frame metrics, offering a positive sign for DC Studios and Warner Bros.

Superman, directed and written by James Gunn, serves as the flagship title for DC Studios’ new narrative initiative, Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult taking on the role of Lex Luthor. The film focuses on Superman’s struggle to affirm his identity as humanity’s guardian while confronting a media campaign engineered by Luthor to tarnish his image.

Looking ahead, DC Studios is preparing for the release of Supergirl, scheduled for June 26, 2026. Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock, the film will chart Kara Zor-El’s cosmic journey of vengeance. Originally envisioned under the previous DCEU banner, Supergirl underwent a significant creative shift following the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-heads of DC Studios. Filming for Supergirl wrapped earlier this year in the United Kingdom and Scotland.
