James Gunn’s Superman continues its impressive box office run, quickly approaching the 400 million dollar global mark within just ten days of release. The film’s strong second Friday performance, combined with a robust Saturday, has propelled it toward the top of this year’s comic book movie rankings.

As of Friday, Superman had amassed a domestic total of 194.4 million dollars. The film’s overseas earnings reached approximately 142.8 million dollars across seventy-eight markets, resulting in a global cumulative total of 337.2 million dollars by Friday night. With momentum on its side, industry estimates suggest Superman will surpass 350 million dollars on Saturday and cross the 400 million dollar threshold by Sunday.

Superman is also poised to become the highest-grossing comic book movie of 2025 at the United States box office. With a second Friday domestic earning of 16.6 million dollars, the film delivered the sixth largest second Friday in DC’s box office history. This placed it just behind major titles like The Dark Knight and The Batman, and notably ahead of films such as Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The second Friday drop was measured at 70.4% from its opening day, a figure consistent with other major comic book releases.

Compared to other superhero films released in 2025, Superman’s second Friday performance ranks as the third highest, surpassing Jurassic World: Rebirth and falling only behind The Minecraft Movie and Lilo and Stitch. The film also recorded the largest second Friday ever for any Superman feature, outperforming the second Fridays of both Batman v Superman and Justice League.

The weekend projection for Superman currently stands between 56 to 61 million dollars for its second three-day frame, with a drop estimated between 55 to 51 percent. Saturday earnings were estimated to have exceeded 22.5 million dollars, suggesting the film might close its second weekend with a stronger figure than initially projected.

On the international front, Superman is performing well in Latin American markets but showing weaker numbers in parts of Asia, contributing to its current global domestic-to-international split of 58 to 42 percent. Despite these regional disparities, the film remains on track for a worldwide total exceeding four hundred million dollars before the close of its second weekend.

This performance also places Superman in the company of several notable superhero releases when it comes to second-weekend drops. If current trends hold, its decline will mirror those of successful titles such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Batman, The Dark Knight, and Thor: Ragnarok, all of which maintained strong holds after their opening weekends.

With a production budget of 225 million dollars, excluding marketing costs, Superman’s box office trajectory demonstrates a solid return for DC Studios. Its domestic performance alone has already outpaced the entire domestic run of Thunderbolts, and it is expected to surpass Captain America: Brave New World’s 200.5 million dollar domestic total by the end of Saturday.

Superman’s ongoing success, alongside a healthy summer release slate that includes Fantastic Four and other major titles in the coming weeks, indicates a positive trend for the global box office as it heads into August. The film’s performance has not only contributed to a strong summer season but also reaffirmed interest in DC Studios’ new narrative universe, Gods and Monsters, under James Gunn’s leadership.
