The price of games for the upcoming Switch 2 console will differ based on content and value, according to Nintendo.
During a recent interview, Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s president, was asked about the difference in price of Nintendo Switch 2 games. He termed it as “variable pricing.” As per him, the console maker will look at each game, and the development that goes into the game, the breadth and depth of the gameplay, the durability over time and the repeatability of gameplay experiences, and many other factors in order to determine the right price point for a Switch 2 game.

According to Bowser, Nintendo hasn’t set a benchmark for its pricing of Switch 2 games. He noted that Mario Kart World is the follow-up to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the best-selling stand-alone Nintendo game of all time with more than 67 million copies sold.
As for whether Nintendo is looking to standardize higher game prices as an industry leader, Bowser said that it’s less about representing the industry, and more and about Nintendo deciding the right thing to do for its products or what the pricing should be for its products overall. He reminded that there was some variability even in the previous generation, pointing to various The Legend of Zelda games being priced differently, including Tears of The Kingdom. As per him, this is really how Nintendo wants to proceed and go forward.
Bowser couldn’t speak for other games that will be released by other publishers or other platforms. He aid that it’s more about what the console maker thinks sees fit for its content, and what is the right value for the consumers as they enter its ecosystem,
On the matter of the future of the original Switch console, Nintendo of America’s president said that the company will continue to keep the original Switch a part of its family, giving consumers a number of different entry points to enter its “gaming universe.”
