The marketing for Nintendo Switch 2 has officially begun in Japan, as the console maker is starting to roll out billboard commercials.
Twitter/X user Takasyeeeee has reported that an ad for the Nintendo Switch 2 has gone up on a billboard in Japan. It features a promotional render of the upcoming console alongside its logo, launch date, and a display running Mario Kart World, as seen below.

Given that the marketing for Nintendo Switch 2 has officially kicked off, we’re bound to more billboards appear across the globe. Promotional content will likely focus on the two major first-party launch titles, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.
Interest in the Nintendo Switch 2 has been at an all-time high in Japan, even before marketing began, as it even managed to spark a shortage of MicroSD Express cards. According to a report from Hermitage Akihabara, MicroSD Express cards, which hardly had any sales due to lack of use, sold out in an instant at Akihabara stores and online retailers across the country soon after it was announced that they would be compatible with Nintendo’s upcoming console.
The source mentioned that all the MicroSD Express cards they had in stock were sold out, even though they had purchased a large stock in advance. They couldn’t help but think that they should have made the effort to order a larger supply. As per calculations made by the mail order staff, these storage expansion cards were selling at a rate of 5.63 units per minute, or 337.62 units per hour, which is far beyond expectations. They also mentioned that more than 80% of the buyers purchased only one microSD Express card, while the rest ordered as many as three.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set for launch on June 5, 2025.
