Bandai Namco has announced Echoes of Aincrad, a new action RPG set in the Sword Art Online universe that is scheduled to launch on July 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders for the game are now available across all platforms.
The upcoming title introduces a notable change for the long-running franchise. For the first time in a Sword Art Online game, players will not take on the role of an established character from the series. Instead, Echoes of Aincrad allows players to create their own protagonist through an extensive avatar customization system, placing them directly inside the virtual world where the story unfolds.
Set within the iconic setting of Aincrad, the game invites players to explore a variety of locations across a vibrant digital world. The adventure will take players through multiple cities and environments, ranging from calm open plains to dangerous dungeons filled with hidden secrets. Along the way, players will encounter numerous enemies and powerful bosses designed to challenge their skills throughout the journey.
Combat in Echoes of Aincrad focuses on fast-paced real-time action. Players can equip and upgrade different weapons, gear, and attributes while selecting special abilities that suit their preferred playstyle. As characters grow stronger through leveling and progression, they will gain access to additional combat options designed to tackle increasingly difficult encounters.
Players will not face these challenges alone. The game introduces NPC partners who accompany the player throughout their adventure.
