System Shock Parity Patch 2.1 Improves Switch and Switch 2 Performance

by Ali Haider

Nightdive Studios has released a new update for its System Shock remake, bringing all versions of the game in line with one another while delivering notable performance improvements, particularly on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The update, titled Parity Patch 2.1, is now available across all platforms.

The patch focuses on ensuring consistency between versions while addressing bugs and refining overall performance. Players on Nintendo’s platforms stand to benefit the most, with improvements to stability, visuals, and frame rate across both Switch systems. On the original Nintendo Switch, the game now runs at up to 900p in docked mode and 720p in handheld mode, using dynamic resolution with a 30 FPS target. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch 2 version supports up to 1440p at 60 FPS when docked and 1080p at 60 FPS in handheld mode, alongside added features such as Joy Con 2 mouse support.

Originally conceived as a modern reimagining of the 1994 classic, System Shock blends first-person shooter mechanics with immersive sim design. The remake retains the core structure of the original while introducing updated visuals, refined controls, an overhauled interface, and enhanced audio. Players take on the role of a hacker navigating Citadel Station, confronting mutated enemies and unraveling the schemes of the rogue AI SHODAN.

The game combines exploration with combat, encouraging players to adapt their approach using stealth, environmental awareness, and a range of futuristic weaponry. Alongside hostile encounters, players must also contend with environmental hazards, puzzles, and hidden secrets scattered throughout the station.

According to Nightdive Studios producer Justin Khan, the Parity Patch represents a milestone for the project, arriving nearly 10 years after development on the remake first began. He described the update as the result of years of iteration and a continued effort to refine the experience across all platforms.

System Shock is currently priced at $39.99 on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with cross-buy support between the two platforms. The game is also available on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, and the Humble Store, as well as on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
