The Tales of franchise may soon see a revival of its classic entries, as producer Yusuke Tomizawa has revealed new details regarding ongoing remaster projects and the next major installment in the beloved JRPG series. Speaking in a recent interview with Famitsu (via ryokutya2089), Tomizawa shared insights into the state of development for multiple Tales of titles, confirming that one of the remasters will be announced “relatively soon,” while another highly anticipated project, the Tales of Xillia 2 remaster, remains in production.
According to Tomizawa, there are currently at least two Tales of remaster projects in progress, spanning various stages of development—from early verification to the final stages of refinement. While specific titles were not disclosed, he assured fans that the announcement for the next remaster would not be far off.
Tomizawa also discussed the global performance of the Tales of franchise, noting that over 70 percent of its total sales now come from overseas markets. He clarified that this shift is not due to declining domestic support, but rather reflects the broader global player base and expanded console market.
While the team is actively developing a completely new Tales of title, Tomizawa explained that fans should expect a longer wait for an official reveal. He added that the studio hopes to share an update on the Tales of Xillia 2 remaster “as soon as possible,” indicating that significant progress has already been made on that front.
Tales of Xillia Remastered—an enhanced version of the 2011 PlayStation 3 title—will serve as the next major release in the series. The game follows aspiring medical student Jude Mathis and the enigmatic Milla Maxwell as they uncover the truth behind a devastating weapon that threatens their world. The remaster introduces a suite of modern enhancements, including improved visuals, autosave functionality, an enemy encounter toggle, and a collection of the original game’s downloadable content.
The remastered edition is scheduled for worldwide release on October 31, 2025, and will be available across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
