Team Cherry Confirms New Silksong Content in Development, Eyes Fresh Game Next

by Ali Haider

Team Cherry has confirmed that new content for Hollow Knight Silksong is actively in development, while also clarifying that its next major project will not be Hollow Knight 3. The comments were shared during an extended interview with Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, where studio co-founders William Pellen and Ari Gibson discussed Silksong’s demanding development cycle, post-launch plans, and the long-term direction of their studio. Their detailed responses offer a clearer picture of what players can expect.

One portion of the interview revisited how the release date for Silksong came together under tight time pressure. When asked about other studios shifting schedules to avoid competing with Silksong, Gibson explained the situation was far from orchestrated. He said, “And then the minute we thought this was ready to release, suddenly we’re releasing it. So it wasn’t a particularly controlled release. We didn’t even know the date until basically a week or two before we put out the trailer.” He added that the process became a growing snowball, amplified by the expectations of players who had waited “five, six years to play the thing.”

The discussion then moved to Team Cherry’s approach to future projects. When asked whether the studio hoped to shorten its development timelines, Pellen noted that both Hollow Knight and Silksong expanded considerably from their original scale. Gibson added, “We’re clearly not concerned if it ends up taking a long period of time.” Both developers emphasized that their creative process focuses on exploring ideas without imposing strict limits, which means upcoming work will follow the same philosophy. They also confirmed that they have other games planned, making it clear that the team is not preparing Hollow Knight 3 next.

Regarding the current state of Silksong, Gibson explained that the team recently completed a significant set of fixes and minor balance changes. More importantly, he confirmed that they are now working on new material for the game. “We are looking at what else can we do, what else can be brought to the experience and how that world can expand,” he said, while also acknowledging that plans remain in flux. Although they avoided committing to a specific scale, Gibson suggested future additions could range from smaller updates to larger expansions, stating that “people would like an expansion in that way.”

Team Cherry also addressed communication, suggesting players can expect more consistent updates. Pellen said, “We are working on stuff at the moment. The cadence will be more frequent coming up.” Still, the team declined to offer a timeline, explaining that announcements will arrive when details are fully settled and ready to share.

Hollow Knight Silksong, released on September 4, 2025, continues to generate strong engagement across its wide platform lineup. With new content in active development and plans forming for its next original game, Team Cherry appears focused on expanding Silksong’s world while shaping its future creative direction.
