The Callisto Protocol Pre Order Only Available On PlayStation

The Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol is now available for pre order, but there’s a catch. A brand new trailer for the game was showcased at PlayStation’s State of Play event, towards the end of which a release date was revealed. We now know that The Callisto Protocol arrives later this year on December 2, 2022 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Shortly after the announcement, the pre order page went up on the official site for The Callisto Protocol. However, it soon became clear that pre orders were only available for the PlayStation platforms, namely both the PS4 and PS5.

If you were looking to pre order The Callisto Protocol on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or even the PC, you’re sadly out of luck. In addition to pre order exclusivity, the PlayStation consoles also receive an exclusive pre order bonus.

Along with the Retro Prisoner character skin and weapon skins, which will also be available on other platforms once their pre orders go live, PlayStation users who pre order The Callisto Protocol also receive an exclusive Contraband Pack. The Contraband Pack is likely to be a starter kit of sorts, with some bonus starting weapons, items, and other survival essentials. It is a survival horror game, after all, and the developer is leaving no stone unturned, even looking to scare people via the DualSense controller’s unique features.

Given all these PlayStation specific benefits, it’s likely that there’s some sort of marketing deal in place between the console maker and publisher Krafton. The Callisto Protocol is being developed by Striking Distance Studios, founded by Glen Schofield, who had previously co-created the Dead Space series. The game takes place in the year 2320 in the United Jupiter Company’s Black Iron prison colony on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. Players assume the role of Jacob Lee, a prisoner at Black Iron who finds himself caught up in an extraterrestrial invasion that appears to have been orchestrated by the prison’s warden.
