Bethesda Softworks and Virtuos’ The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now the third best-selling game of 2025 in the US.
Mat Piscatella, Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana (NPD), took to Blue Sky to share that, according to the Circana Retail Tracking Service, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is already the third best-selling game of 2025 in the US in terms of Dollar sales, after being just one week in the market. It is currently trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

Piscatella further said that the 10% of console players, who are hyper enthusiasts, complain about the existence of remasters. However, according to him, the same enthusiasts end up buying said remasters anyway. Meanwhile, he mentioned that other console players are more appreciative of graphically improved re-releases. However, he clarified that a majority of console players launch Fortnite, GTA, Call of Duty, Minecraft or Roblox, and continue to not care about other games.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered also took the spot of the most played game during the week on PSN Profiles, surpassing Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, suggesting that the game has performed well on PS5 not only in the US but also globally.
Meanwhile, on Steam, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered reached an impressive all-time concurrent player count of 216,784. It’s worth noting that the game is available day one on Game Pass and has relatively high minimum system requirements, in part due to its mandatory use of Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen-based software ray tracing. Bethesda Softworks’ other recent release, Starfield, also went through some of the aforementioned constraints, but managed to reach an even higher all-time concurrent player count of 330,723. MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Cicle didn’t fare so well, however, as it only managed to receive an all-time concurrent player count of 12,138. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered also performed far better than Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush, which reached an all-time concurrent player count of 6,132, and Arkane Austin’s Redfall, which has an all-time concurrent player count of 6,124 players.
