The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered PS5 vs PS5 Pro vs Xbox Series X|S Graphics Comparison

Bethesda Softworks and Virtuos’ action role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, is now available on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S, and if you’re on the fence about which version to pick up, read ahead.

In terms of graphical settings, the PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X versions of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered offer two display modes, namely Quality and Performance. Both Xbox Series X and PS5 have very similar graphics settings across both configurations, while the PS5 Pro version improves some settings, including draw distance and certain aspects of lighting. The Performance mode in Sony Interactive Entertainment’s mid-gen console also maintains some of the level of detail seen in its Quality mode. Meanwhile, in its only graphics mode, the Xbox Series S version exhibits some visual cutbacks in terms of textures, shadows, lighting, vegetation, and draw distance.

In terms image quality, the PS5 and Xbox Series X version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered operate at a dynamic resolution that maxes out at 4K (2160p) in Quality mode, commonly running at 1440p when traversing interiors and 1080p to 1189p when out in the open world on Xbox Series X, and at 1440p when traversing interiors and 1080p to 1227p when out in the open world on PS5. In Performance mode, the game also runs at a dynamic resolution that maxes out at 4K in Quality mode, commonly running at 1227p to 1440p when traversing interiors and 864p to 1080p when out in the open world on both Xbox Series X and PS5. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X version runs at a dynamic resolution that maxes out at 1260p, commonly running at 720p to 900p when traversing interiors and 360p to 531p when out in the open world. Lastly, the PS5 Pro version runs at a dynamic resolution that maxes out at 4K, commonly running at 1440p when traversing interiors and 1080p to 1270p (Quality) or 1080p to 1227p (Performance) when out in the open world.

With regards to performance, the PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X versions of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered targets a frame rate of 30 fps in Quality mode and 60 fps in Performance mode. but no version is able to maintain either target on a consistent basis. The same is true for the Xbox Series S version’s only graphics mode, which targets a frame rate of 30 fps. All consoles except the Series S also suffer from crashes, though issue is less prevalent on PS5 Pro.

Overall, the PS5 Pro version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered delivers the best possible console experience, though it comes with its share of issues.
