The Elder Scrolls VI will build upon the magic and leveling system from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, based on the latest insight.
Speaking during an interview, lead designer on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, senior systems designer for Starfied, and the former overall design director at Bethesda Softworks, Bruce Nesmith, mentioned that the game systems that were developed in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be further developed for The Elder Scrolls VI. He added that his “fingerprints” will be present on many of those elements.
Regarding the Magic system from The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Nesmith mentioned that he persuaded Todd to let him restart it from scratch. He said that Todd trusted him enough to let him do that, and he believes that there will probably still be traces of the system he designed in The Elder Scrolls VI. He added that it was not his unique idea, but he had a large hand in its conception.
According to Nesmith, the development team at Bethesda will continue to use the same concepts for dealing with how the player levels as well as other game systems as the foundation, with a bunch of new ideas thrown into the mix. As such, he believes that some of the systems he worked on will still be present in The Elder Scrolls VI.
Back in August, 2023, Head of Publishing at Bethesda Softworks, Pete Hines, revealed during an interview that The Elder Scrolls VI is already in development. In response to a question regarding the game being in pre-production or conceptual phase, he stated that the game is past those stages and is currently in actual development. Despite that, he clarified that the The Elder Scrolls VI was still in its early stages of development at the time.
