Embark Studios has announced that The Finals will retire on PlayStation 4 when Season 10 arrives on March 18, 2026, marking the end of support for the last generation version of the free-to-play shooter.
The studio confirmed the decision in a public statement, explaining that development will now be concentrated entirely on modern platforms. While the game will no longer be accessible on PS4 after that date, player progress and purchases will remain tied to their Embark ID and will transfer to any supported device. As the developer noted, “When Season 10 begins, we’ll be retiring The Finals on PlayStation 4 and focusing our support on current generation hardware.” The team added that all purchases and progression “will transfer to anywhere you choose to play,” closing with a message of appreciation: “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who’s been part of the PS4 community. See you in the Arena!”
The Finals has maintained strong engagement since its surprise debut at The Game Awards and its launch on December 7, 2023. Developed by Embark Studios, the title blends competitive first-person shooting with a showlike premise in which teams compete for cash inside explosive, destructible arenas. Players choose between Light, Medium, and Heavy classes, each offering different movement styles, durability, and gadgets. The game’s cash-centered objectives, combined with a sandbox approach to destruction, have helped it stand out in a crowded multiplayer landscape.
With support now shifting fully to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, Embark Studios appears set on streamlining its development pipelines and preparing for future updates without the constraints of aging hardware. Cross-platform progression ensures that long-time players will retain their full accounts when moving to current consoles or PC. As Season 10 approaches, this transition positions The Finals to continue evolving on platforms capable of handling the game’s ambitious physics-driven design.
