The Game Awards 2024 finalists have received a major sales boost in Europe upon the reveal of nominees for Game of the Year.

Christopher Dring, head of GameIndustry.biz, took to Twitter/X to share Game Sales Data from Europe, which indicate that, following the reveal of the finalists for The Game Awards 2024, Game of the Year nominees Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Astro Bot, Elden Ring, Metaphor received a sales boost.

The game awards nominees sales

According to Dring, after the reveal of the finalists for The Game Awards 2024, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth sales increased 268% week-on-week across Europe, Astro Bot sales jumped 61%, Elden Ring sales saw a 38% increase, and Metaphor sales rose up by 172%. He added that, while these aren’t huge sales figures overall, they represent a definite uptick.

For those wondering about Black Friday sales contributing to the aforementioned sales boost, Dring said that game sales do start to increase naturally at this time of year. He further mentioned that, overall, game sales increased 10% week-on-week in Europe, so all the data is overindexing.

The highly sought-after Game of the Year category in The Game Awards 2024 includes six titles: Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio. While Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is an expansion, it has been included in the Game of the Year category following the confirmation that downloadable content (DLC) and expansions would be eligible for consideration.

Previously, Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmed had shared that sales of Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth were underwhelming compared to previous entries in the series. The former sold fewer copies than its predecessor, Final Fantasy XV, while the latter failed to match the sales of Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, the company will undoubtedly be pleased by the sales boost Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has received in Europe, apparently as a result of being a The Game Awards 2024 finalist.
