The Game Awards Teaser Statue Unrelated to Diablo or God of War

by Salal Awan

The circulating teaser for this year’s The Game Awards has drawn extensive speculation, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared images and brief clips of a mysterious statue online. The footage, appearing on Twitter and other platforms, immediately sparked theories linking the piece to major franchises. However, emerging statements from industry figures indicate that the statue is unrelated to either the Diablo series or the God of War IP.

Initial suggestions tying the teaser to Diablo originated from Jez Corden of Windows Central. He referenced an earlier comment in which he hinted that it might be time to revisit Diablo 4, leading many to assume the statue was part of a new expansion reveal. As speculation grew, the idea gained traction within the community, especially when circulated alongside Keighley’s cryptic post that included the phrase “regal.inspiring.thickness” and the accompanying image of the statue.

The theory began to collapse when Jason Schreier offered clarification, stating directly that the teaser has no relation to Diablo 4. Schreier added, “No idea where Jez is getting that, but this statue is not teasing the Diablo 4 expansion. (I don’t currently plan on reporting what it is, sorry, but it’s a good one.)” His remarks effectively narrowed the scope of possibilities, even though his refusal to elaborate left room for further discussion. At roughly the same time, comments attributed to God of War director Cory Barlog emerged, suggesting that the teaser has no link to Santa Monica Studios’ flagship franchise either.

For now, the precise nature of the reveal remains unconfirmed. What is clear is that neither Diablo nor God of War will be involved, based on statements from both Schreier and Barlog. With the Game Awards 2025 set to broadcast globally and celebrate the year’s standout achievements, the remaining uncertainty around the statue has become part of the anticipation. Viewers will not have to wait much longer, and whatever the announcement entails, it has succeeded in generating sustained conversation ahead of the ceremony.
