Uncharted: The Lost Legacy co-director Shaun Escayg is currently doing “research” for an unannounced title, possibly Uncharted 5.

Escayg recently took to Instagram to share a vague post containing the text, “Research…” alongside a picture of a scenic view from Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago, hinting at the possibility of Uncharted 5 being in development. The image prominently features a canon in the foreground.

Naughty Dog previously confirmed that it was working on a second game in addition to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. In March, 2025, insider DanielRPK claimed that the unannounced title was not a third entry in The Last of Us series. He added that the project was spearheaded by Escayg, and had been in development for around 3 years. “Naughty Dog has a second project (not The Last of Us III), directed by Shaun Escayg (Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Avengers), he said in his Patreon post. “It’s been in development for three years now.”

Trinidad and Tobago makes for an ideal setting for a new Uncharted game. The independent island country located in the Caribbean has a rich maritime history of lost treasures. One of the most prominent stories comes from Rockley Bay, where a major naval clash between French and Dutch forces in 1677 caused more than twenty ships to sink. These wrecks are believed to still contain valuable artifacts such as gold, silver, and other relics from the era, drawing ongoing interest from divers and researchers. In addition, legends persist about pirate treasure hidden along remote coastlines, as well as cargo lost from Spanish ships that once sailed through Caribbean waters.

Toward the end of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Cassie, the daughter of Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher was introduced as a potential protagonist for future entries in the series.
