The sequel to Sony Interactive Entertainment and Ready At Dawn’s third-person action adventure game, The Order: 1886, was set to focus heavily on gameplay improvements.
Meta has announced the closure of its studio Ready At Dawn, the developer behind games like Daxter, God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, The Order: 1886 and the Lone Echo series. Known insider Shinobi602 took to Twitter/X to share that, based on what he had heard, the studio had “awesome” plans in place for a sequel to The Order: 1886 before it was acquired by Meta.
According to Shinobi602, the engine already in place, which took up a considerable amount of time and resources during the development of the original. As such, the development team had planned to put everything into the gameplay experience for The Order: 1886 sequel. He believes it could have brought a level of improvement that was seen going from the original Assassin’s Creed to Assassin’s Creed 2.
However, the insider also mentioned that The Order: 1886 sequel had not yet been greenlit by Sony Interactive Entertainment, suggesting that Ready At Dawn had not pitched the title to the publisher at the time. Before it could, the studio was acquired by Meta.
For the uninitiated, The Order: 1886 was released for PlayStation 4 on February 20, 2015. The game is set in an alternate history version of London in 1886, where players follow the Knights of the Round Table as they fight to protect the world from half-breeds like werewolves and vampires, as well as from rebellious fringe groups opposing the government. Gameplay involves cover based shooting using a range of different weapons, including variations of rifles, grenades, crossbows, and pistols. Players progress through a linear story campaign by defeating enemies and clearing other obstacles. The game also features quick time events, melee takedowns, and various collectibles scattered throughout its levels.
