Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow Launches December 4 on PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest, and PC VR

Vertigo Games, in partnership with Maze Theory and Eidos-Montréal, has announced that Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow will launch worldwide on December 4, 2025, for PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest, and PC VR platforms via Steam. The title will be priced at $29.99, with a 10% discount available for players who pre-order ahead of release.

The announcement was accompanied by the debut of new gameplay footage showcasing Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow on Meta Quest and PlayStation VR2. The videos highlight the game’s immersive stealth mechanics, combining the traditional atmosphere of Thief with interactive virtual reality design.

Set in the dark, industrial world known simply as “The City,” the game introduces players to Magpie, a streetwise thief forced to navigate a corrupt society ruled by Baron Ulysses Northcrest. What begins as an ordinary life of survival through pickpocketing and burglary soon evolves into a larger conflict tied to an ancient artifact—one that carries the legacy of a forgotten past.

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow marks the series’ first foray into virtual reality, reimagining its hallmark stealth gameplay for motion-controlled environments. Players can physically crouch, lean, and use their hands to interact with the environment—unlocking safes, prying open secret compartments, or silently lifting valuables from unsuspecting guards.

Combat and traversal are designed with player movement in mind, featuring tactile bow-and-arrow mechanics, throwable tools, and environmental distractions that allow multiple approaches to every encounter. Players can choose between remaining undetected through careful stealth or neutralizing enemies with precision from the shadows.

The game’s world retains the Thief franchise’s signature steampunk-inspired aesthetic, filled with towering architecture, candle-lit corridors, and a tense atmosphere underscored by its dynamic lighting and audio design. Each heist presents multiple paths and creative opportunities to complete objectives, reinforcing the player’s role as a master thief operating in the margins of society.

Vertigo Games’ collaboration with Maze Theory and Eidos-Montréal brings together a team with established expertise in immersive design and narrative-driven worlds. While Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow is not a direct remake of the original 1998 Thief: The Dark Project, it draws heavily on its tone, setting, and philosophy of player freedom, offering a modern entry point into the franchise for new audiences.

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow launches December 4 on PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest, and PC VR. Pre-orders are available now through the PlayStation Store, Meta Quest Store, and Steam VR, offering a 10% early purchase discount.
