Third-party titles are enjoying greater market share on the Nintendo Switch 2 compared to the original Switch at launch in the US, according to Circana (NPD).

Mat Piscatella, Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana (NPD), to to Blue Sky to share that the third-party share of Nintendo Switch 2 software in the US is far better than it was during the original Switch launch. More specifically, third-party unit share of physical software for Nintendo’s new console during its first week reached just shy of 40%. During the first month of the original Switch launch, it was less than 20%.

The stats shared by Piscatella indicate that third-party software on the Nintendo Switch 2 has roughly doubled that of the original Switch. That said, he cautioned that it’s far too early to claim anything concrete when it comes to the success of third-party titles on Nintendo’s new console. He reminded his followers that the console hasn’t even been in the market for 3 weeks yet.  He added that the sample size of games is far too small to derive any meaningful conclusions.

In terms of hardware sales, the Nintendo Switch 2 has shattered US sales records, becoming the fastest-selling video game console in the country’s history. Piscatella recently reported that the console sold over 1.1 million units during its launch week ending June 7, 2025, a figure that doesn’t even include digital sales from Nintendo’s official online store. The previous US launch sales record was held by Sony’s PlayStation 4.

The top-selling physical games for the Nintendo Switch 2 during its launch week were revealed. The top seller was Mario Kart World, followed by Cyberpunk 2077 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. These titles contributed significantly to the console’s strong market debut and reflect consumer demand for both Nintendo’s first-party exclusives and high-profile third-party releases.
