Nintendo has confirmed a key gameplay limitation for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, revealing how many characters players will be able to manage in the upcoming social simulation title.
According to a newly published FAQ page in Japan, the game will support a maximum of 70 Miis per save file. The official entry states, “Q: How many MIis can I add? A: You can add up to 70 Miis.”
The same FAQ also clarifies that save data is not shared between users on the same system. Each profile will have its own island and a single dedicated save file.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will be playable on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. While the core content remains unchanged across platforms, the newer hardware will offer performance improvements such as faster loading times, along with support for features like Game Chat, which requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
Additional details confirm that the game primarily uses button controls, with limited touch support in specific scenarios such as Mii creation and item crafting. The title does not support the Joy-Con 2 mouse functionality on Switch 2.
Nintendo has also outlined how Mii creation and transfer systems will work. Players can create residents based on Miis stored on their console, but direct imports from other titles, such as Miitopia, are not supported. Similarly, Miis created within the game cannot be transferred out to other software.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is set to launch globally on April 16, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, with full compatibility on Switch 2. The game introduces expanded customization options, including broader gender and relationship choices, as well as new features designed to modernize the long-running series.
