Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Switch 2 vs. Switch 1 Comparison Highlights Significant Performance Gap

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4  has now launched across all major platforms, and with its release, we have a new comparison that sheds light on how the game performs on Nintendo’s hardware. Developed by Iron Galaxy and published by Activision, the game serves as a follow-up to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, offering fans remastered versions of Pro Skater 3 and Pro Skater 4 with enhanced visuals and gameplay improvements.

The comparison between the Nintendo Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions of the game reveals a striking difference in both performance and visual fidelity. On the original Switch, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 suffers from widespread graphical downgrades and a highly unstable frame rate capped at 30 frames per second. The Switch 1 version consistently struggles to deliver a smooth gameplay experience, with significant compromises made to textures, lighting, and overall image clarity.

In contrast, the Switch 2 version aligns much more closely with the PlayStation 4 release, offering near-identical settings in terms of shadows, textures, and lighting. However, the Switch 2 still manages to produce slightly sharper images and improved shadow rendering, likely due to its enhanced hardware capabilities. Performance-wise, both Switch 2 and PS4 run the game at 1080p and target 60 frames per second, though both achieve this by scaling from an average internal resolution of approximately 635p.

The Xbox Series S, by comparison, stands out as the most visually advanced version among these platforms, providing higher-quality lighting, textures, and reflections. It also supports a performance mode that pushes the game to 120 frames per second, scaled from a dynamic resolution averaging around 720p.

For players opting to use the Switch 2 in handheld mode, the console automatically reduces the rendering resolution to below 540p to maintain performance. Even with this reduction, the handheld experience remains relatively stable, making the Switch 2 version an attractive option for players seeking a portable experience without severe compromises in quality.

The comparison underlines one key point: except for the original Switch version, which falls short due to its technical limitations, all other platforms—including Switch 2—deliver a solid gameplay experience. While the Xbox Series S offers superior visuals and smoother frame rates, the Switch 2 stands out for achieving console-like performance in a portable form factor.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 launched on July 11, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
