Trails in the Sky Second Chapter has been officially announced, with the reveal accompanied by a new trailer and the launch of its Steam store page. The sequel is described as the next modern reimagining of Nihon Falcom’s long-running Trails series and is planned for release in 2026.
The game is being developed and published by Nihon Falcom Corporation and will be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Like its predecessor, the second chapter continues the story set in the Kingdom of Liberl, picking up directly after the events of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. The title is fully rebuilt in 3D visuals, continuing the series’ shift toward a modern presentation.
According to details listed on the Steam page, the story follows Estelle Bright as she sets out on a new journey after the sudden disappearance of Joshua. On the eve of the Queen’s Birthday Festival, Joshua reveals the truth about his past before leaving behind a brief farewell, stating, “Goodbye, Estelle.” With only his harmonica and a firm resolve, Estelle begins a continent-spanning quest to uncover the truth and confront the secretive Ouroboros organization, which threatens to plunge Liberl into chaos.
The narrative is framed as the greatest crisis in the kingdom’s history, featuring large-scale events such as a burning capital, a looming airship presence, and the threat of the Shining Ring. Estelle and her allies must navigate conspiracies and escalating danger while attempting to reunite with Joshua and dismantle Ouroboros from within.
Gameplay additions include expanded combat mechanics, with new Crafts and S Crafts, a Brave Rush system that links character attacks during Quick Battles, and deeper use of the orbment system for Arts. Players who carry over clear data from the first chapter can unlock bonus items to ease progression, which is a practical touch for returning players.
Beyond the main story, the sequel introduces expansive side content such as fishing, poker, cooking with party members, and additional playable characters. System requirements listed for the PC version include a 64 bit Windows 10 or 11 operating system, an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 for minimum settings. While a broad 2026 release window has been shared, a final launch date has yet to be announced.
