Ubisoft has canceled the sequel to Massive Entertainment’s action-adventure game, Star Wars Outlaws, early during development, according to a new report.
During the latest episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, the crew talked about Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s statement during a recent investor meeting, in which he blamed the Star Wars brand for being in “choppy waters” as the reason behind the disappointing sales performance of Outlaws. Co-host and insider Tom Henderson discussed some of the projects that have been canceled, including a sequel to the aforementioned Star Wars game.

According to Henderson, the Star Wars Outlaws sequel hadn’t yet entered production, and was very early in development at the time of cancellation. Going by Guillemot’s statement on the game, it’s clear that Ubisoft wasn’t interested in pursuing a sequel after the original’s disappointing commercial performance. Star Wars Outlaws fans will undoubtedly be disappointed to hear that Massive Entertainment wasn’t given the opportunity to improve upon the game and deliver a better sequel. Perhaps Ubisoft will greenlight the project at some point in the future once Guillemot feels that the Star Wars brand has found its way out of “choppy waters”.
Last month, an individual who goes by the name Drinking Horchata had claimed that The Crew Motorfest, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog as early as this year in 2025. They mentioned that it’s difficult to know which of the aforementioned titles will be the first to arrive on the subscription service, though they learned that the announcement will happen sometime during late summer.
Star Wars Outlaws was released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on August 30, 2024. It is also scheduled to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4, 2025. Taking place within the Star Wars timeline between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the game focuses on Kay Vess, a young rogue who gathers a crew to pull off a high-stakes heist as a means of escaping the grip of a powerful criminal organization.
