Ubisoft has shared new updates about the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, including a first look at the long-rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, details on upcoming projects, and a performance update for Assassin’s Creed Unity.
The information was revealed through a new blog post outlining the series’ roadmap heading into 2026. Ubisoft also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is approaching its first anniversary, with the studio reflecting on the game’s updates and player feedback since launch.
“Since launch, the experience has evolved with new features and updates, shaped in large part by your feedback. Our recent parkour refinements are a direct result of regular feedback sessions, both in person and online, with our most engaged players and creators.”
Ubisoft said Shadows will soon enter its final phase of support. While updates will continue, they will arrive less frequently as development teams begin shifting their focus toward upcoming Assassin’s Creed projects.
Among the projects currently in development is Codename HEXE, which Ubisoft describes as a darker and more narrative-driven entry in the franchise. The project is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and is being overseen by Jean Guesdon, who recently returned to the series as Head of Content while also serving as Creative Director on the project.
The publisher also provided an update on Codename Invictus, a multiplayer-focused Assassin’s Creed title being developed by a team composed of veterans from the For Honor development group. Ubisoft described the project as a PvP multiplayer experience that takes a new approach to online gameplay within the franchise.
In addition to these projects, Ubisoft confirmed that several other Assassin’s Creed titles remain in development at different stages, including Assassin’s Creed Jade. The company also indicated that it is exploring ways to bring cooperative gameplay back to the series in the future.
Alongside its future plans, Ubisoft announced that a free 60 FPS patch for Assassin’s Creed Unity will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S. The update is scheduled to arrive tomorrow and will allow players to experience the game’s version of 18th-century Paris with smoother performance on modern consoles.
The blog post also confirmed that more news about the long-in-development Assassin’s Creed live-action series on Netflix will be shared soon as the company continues expanding the franchise beyond video games.
Ubisoft concluded the update by stating that multiple Assassin’s Creed titles will be available to play for free on Xbox during the Xbox Free Play Days event running from April 2 through April 6, giving players an opportunity to revisit older entries in the series.
