Ubisoft has sparked fresh speculation about Far Cry 3 after the official Far Cry social media account appeared to tease a long-requested 60 FPS update for current-generation consoles. The hint surfaced in response to a direct question from a player asking when a 60 FPS patch would arrive for Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.
The exchange began when a user posted, “Far Cry 3 classic edition and Blood Dragon 60fps update when? Please tell me soon!!!!!!!!!” The official Far Cry account replied not with text, but with a meme image showing a person rubbing their hands together, a gesture commonly interpreted as anticipation or something being imminent. While no formal announcement was made, the response has been widely read as a suggestion that an update may be on the way rather than a flat refusal.
This kind of social media hinting has precedent, and Ubisoft’s track record adds weight to the interpretation. The company has consistently updated several last-generation titles to take advantage of newer hardware. Just last month, Ubisoft released a 60 FPS patch for The Division on PlayStation 5, reinforcing the idea that older releases remain part of its current console support strategy.
Far Cry 3 was originally released in late 2012 and quickly became one of the most influential open-world shooters of its era. Set on the Rook Islands, the game follows Jason Brody as he evolves from a stranded tourist into a hardened survivor while facing off against the unpredictable antagonist Vaas Montenegro. The title later received the Classic Edition release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, marketed as a Resynced version for newer hardware at the time.
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, the standalone expansion released in 2013, took the same foundation and turned it into a stylized parody inspired by 1980s action films. Players step into the role of Sergeant Rex Power Colt, a cybernetic soldier voiced by Michael Biehn, navigating a neon-drenched world filled with cyborg enemies and laser-firing dragons. Blood Dragon remains available on modern platforms through its Classic Edition and is often bundled with the Far Cry 6 Season Pass.
