Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Receives M18 Rating for Violence and Language

The upcoming action role-playing title Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has officially received an M18 classification due to its intense depictions of violence and use of strong language. The rating sheds light on the dark, mature themes awaiting players when the game launches on October 21, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Set in modern-day Seattle, the game places players in the role of the Nomad, an elder vampire who awakens after a century-long slumber. Guided by a mysterious voice, the Nomad embarks on a quest to uncover a century-old cold case that threatens both mortals and the undead. Played from a first-person perspective, the experience focuses heavily on exploration, supernatural combat, and the delicate balance of survival through feeding on humans while remaining undetected by society.

Combat in Bloodlines 2 has been described as fast-paced and visceral, with frequent depictions of bloodshed as players battle both humans and other vampires. The classification board highlighted that “depictions of realistic violence, such as killing, maiming or causing other serious injury to humanoid characters” are permitted under M18 guidelines. The game features close-up camera sequences during finishing moves and stealth attacks, showing moments such as neck bites, decapitations, and even enemies being torn apart through telekinetic force.

In addition to its violent content, the title includes frequent use of strong coarse language, including several explicit terms. The M18 rating allows for “frequent use of strong coarse language,” which aligns with the game’s mature tone and gritty storytelling.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 serves as a direct sequel to the 2004 cult classic Bloodlines and continues the World of Darkness narrative universe inspired by the tabletop role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade. Initially developed by Hardsuit Labs, the project transitioned to The Chinese Room in 2021 under publisher Paradox Interactive. Players can expect to choose from various vampire clans, each with unique powers and moral dilemmas, as they navigate a city rife with political intrigue and ancient secrets.
