Digital Extremes has officially confirmed that a native version of Warframe is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement was shared through the game’s official social media channels, where the studio outlined its intention to deliver a significantly improved experience on Nintendo’s new hardware compared to the existing backward-compatible version.
In a public post, the developer stated, “A native version of #Warframe is on its way to the Nintendo Switch 2.” The message added that players can expect “smoother visuals, more responsive combat, and significantly improved overall gameplay fidelity,” signaling a clear technical upgrade over the current Switch experience. Digital Extremes also noted that additional details will be shared at a later date.
Warframe is a free-to-play cooperative action RPG developed by Digital Extremes and is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. The game is set in a science fiction universe where players control members of the Tenno, an ancient group of warriors who pilot advanced bio-mechanical suits known as Warframes. These suits are used in fast-paced missions across the Origin System, with a strong focus on cooperative play and constant content updates.
The Nintendo Switch version of Warframe has seen limitations following the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. While the game remains playable through backward compatibility, it is currently capped at 30 FPS with dynamic resolution scaling. During Digital Extremes’ recent Devstream 192 on January 23, 2026, the studio confirmed that this will change with the arrival of a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 build.
According to the information shared during the Devstream, the native Nintendo Switch 2 version is targeting a locked 1080p resolution at 60 FPS. The build is also expected to feature improved texture filtering and overall visual clarity. One of the more notable additions discussed is a new Joy-Con Mouse mode, designed to improve menu navigation and precision aiming, particularly for players accustomed to mouse-style controls.
The native version is currently planned for release in Q1 2026, though a specific date has not yet been announced. This announcement arrives alongside other major platform expansions for Warframe. During the same Devstream, Digital Extremes confirmed the global Android launch of the game, scheduled for February 18, 2026. That release will complete Warframe’s full cross-platform ecosystem, enabling cross-play and cross-save functionality across all supported platforms.
Looking ahead, Warframe is also preparing for its next major narrative update, titled The Shadowgrapher, which is slated for release in March 2026 across all platforms. With a native Nintendo Switch 2 version now confirmed, Digital Extremes appears to be positioning Warframe to take full advantage of new hardware while maintaining parity across its expanding global player base.
