Web Domain Registration Fuels Speculation of Upcoming Sekiro Anime Adaptation

by Ali Haider

Speculation surrounding a possible anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has intensified following the registration of a new web domain associated with the project. The development adds further weight to rumors that have persisted since 2023 regarding animated adaptations of both Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima.

While the Ghost of Tsushima anime was officially confirmed earlier this year, with Kamikaze Douga attached to production, Sekiro has remained the subject of ongoing but unverified reports. The latest update suggests that the Sekiro anime may be handled by Qzil.la, a relatively new animation studio best known for its work on the opening sequence of Jigokuraku (Hell’s Paradise).

The news, which comes via prominent and consistent anime leaker Oecuf, points toward an eventual reveal, though details remain limited at this stage. The domain registration, while not confirming the anime outright, strongly indicates that planning for the adaptation is progressing.

Qzil.la has not yet produced a full seasonal anime series, so it is best to anticipate a shorter episode count for the Sekiro project, at least in its initial form. With the studio still in its early stages, expectations are cautiously optimistic, especially given the game’s demanding tone and stylistic complexity.

Originally released in 2019, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is an action-adventure title developed by FromSoftware, known for its emphasis on precise combat, stealth, and intense boss encounters. Set during a fictionalized version of Japan’s Sengoku period, the game places players in control of a shinobi named Wolf on a mission to rescue his lord and navigate the bloody conflict enveloping Ashina. The game draws heavily from Japanese folklore and Buddhist themes, showcasing a distinct tone compared to FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series.

Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, Sekiro was conceived as a new intellectual property distinct from the developer’s prior work. It received widespread critical acclaim and went on to win several major industry awards, including Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2019. As of September 2023, the game has surpassed ten million copies sold worldwide.
