The latest update for 505 Games and Leenzee’s Soulslike action role-playing game, Wuchang Fallen Feathers, has restricted certain NPC and boss kills.

Patch notes for Wuchang Fallen Feathers update 1.5 mention that adjustments have been made to animations, values, and level design for certain NPCs and AI. It is further stated that the development team has added dialogues and optimized the exhaustion animation for some NPCs in order to allow for completion of some plots.

Modder and Soulslike game enthusiast Lance McDonald noted took to Twitter/X to share his findings regarding the aforementioned changes to the behavior of certain NPCs. According to him, the new update has made it so that Wuchang Fallen Feathers now restricts certain NPC and boss kills. To clarify, players can no longer kill any historically significant boss or NPC. Instead, they just get “exhausted” and relax after the fight, engaging the player in a conversation.

According to McDonald, these change are the result of censorship due to pressure from Chinese players, who were upset about being able to kill historically significant characters from the end of the Ming Dynasty. Players are reporting that the “pray” gesture, which was learned from a Portuguese Christian character in the game, has also been removed.

Furthermore, the entirety of chapter 4 is now much easier in difficulty because around half of the enemies are now non-hostile to the player. They can no longer be attacked by the player during the rebellion outbreak. A historically significant character no longer dies, instead opting to flee the scene. In order to get the uncensored experience, fans will need to get a hold of and play a physical copy of Wuchang Fallen Feathers without any updates installed.

Last month, it was reported that the PS5 review build of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers features a different English dub for select characters compared to its PC version. Read about it here.
